More Bad Court Days for Microsoft's Buggy Defense

Like some kind of untested 1.0 release, Microsoft's defense struggled again yesterday in the antitrust trial. The issue of the day was the company's tactics with hundreds of Internet access companies such as Netcom and and MCI Worldcom, which Microsoft enlisted as allies in the browser battles with Netscape. And again a Microsoft witness made damaging admissions under merciless cross-examination.

"Was it true you were trying to prevent Internet service providers from presenting Netscape and Internet Explorer side by side so users could choose?" asked David Boies, the lead government lawyer.

"We thought we would lose in a side-by-side choice," answered Cameron Myhrvold, brother of storied CTO Nathan and the Microsoft exec in charge of relations with ISPs around the world. MORE>>
