SOME PLACES TO CONSIDER THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE TROUBLE PAYING YOUR MORTGAGE BILL

Kokomo, Indiana, tops the list of U.S. cities with the most affordable housing, according to the latest figures from the National Association of Home Builders. The NAHB says that during the second quarter of this year, 92.6% of all homes sold in Kokomo were within reach of the median-income U.S. family at prevailing mortgage rates. Other highly affordable spots to buy a home: Jackson, Michigan, where 92.2% of homes were affordable; Lima, Ohio (92.1%); Lansing, Michigan (91.7%); and Vineland, New Jersey (90.8%). At the other end of the spectrum, only 15.6% of all housing sold in San Francisco was within reach of average Americans during the second quarter. In fact, California captured 17 spots on the NAHB's list of the 25 cities with the highest home prices. Here are the four cities that followed San Francisco at the top of that list: Santa Cruz, California (22.0%); Salinas, California (25.2%); Honolulu (28.7%); and Santa Rosa, California (31.7%).
