AIDS NO. 1 KILLER OF YOUNG ADULTS
AIDS is now the leading cause of death amoung young Americans aged 25 to 44 , the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported today. Accidents dropped to second, followed by cancer, heart disease, suicide and murder. AIDS cases are steadily increasing among minorities and women, especially among drug users; the number of gay men infected has leveled off.TIME science writer Christine Gormansays that the statistics were expected. "Young people are usually healthy; not many die of any one disease. That is why accidents were the leading cause of death until now."
