THE SENATE WEIGHS IN

The Senate Judiciary Committee this afternoon decided to conduct a hearing into allegations that federal officials, including FBI agents and possibly U.S. attorneys, participated in an all-white picnic where racist slogans were displayed. The Washington Times has reported that a former agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms hosted the "Good Ol' Boys Roundup" May 18-20 in Polk County, Tenn. On display, the paper says: T-shirts showingMartin Luther King's facebehind a target and O.J. Simpson in a hangman's noose. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, who oversees the ATF, today said early evidence indicates that only a few of the 300 people attending were bureau members, but added that even if one agent was there: "We condemn it."
