PERSONA NON GRATA
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's drive to expel 15,000 Palestinians living in his country has sent a chill through Palestinian communities everywhere. "It could become a very nasty situation because other countries aren't going to allow these people in," reports Lara Marlowe from Beirut. "It's the eternal issue with them: They have no place to go." Gaddafi is not expelling some 10,000 other Palestinians in Libya who hold Jordanian passports. While Gaddafi claims the expulsions are intended to bring attention to the plight of the Palestinians, Marlowe believes Libya's crippled economy is driving the action. "If he gets rid of the Palestinians, then there will be a little bit more of a very small pie for Libyans."
