THE MARKETS
A late rally in energy shares pushed the Dow Jones Industrial average up 27 points to end the day at 5,184.32. The New York Stock Exchange composite index rose 1.15 to 330.17. On the Big Board, advancers led decliners 1,207 to 1,133, with 758 unchanged. Volume was moderate with 342.06 million shares traded. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index was down slightly 0.01 at 1,062.40 The Standard & Poor's 500 stocks gained 2.04 to close at 619.52. The American Stock Exchange market value index ended the day up 0.10 to close at 535.65. In London, gold closed at $389.55, up $0.20.
