THE MARKETS
:The Dow Jones industrial average ended the day down 10.12 points, closing at 5,095.80. The New York Stock Exchange composite index was up slightly, by 0.22, to end the day at 328.35. On the Big Board, advancers led decliners 1,249 to 1,088, with 768 unchanged. The Nasdaq composite index was down 5.91 to close at 1042.22. The Standard & Poor's 500 stocks were down 0.41 to close at 614.12. The American Stock Exchange market value index fell 0.18 to 544.52. In London, gold closed at $387.30, off $0.30.
