THE MARKETS

It was a rough day on Wall Street Tuesday, as the Dow Jones industrial average erased most of Monday's record-setting gain. By the close of the day, the Dow lost 27.09 to finish at 5,192.27. The New York Stock Exchange composite index also fell, losing 0.17 to close at 328.53. Volume was moderate, with 412.98 shares traded. On the Big Board, decliners led advancers 1,194 to 1,138, with 763 unchanged. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index lost 1.57 points to close at 1,027.87. The American Stock Exchange market value index gained 1.85 to finish at 533.56.
