After a volatile session with sizable gains in oil and consumer stocks, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 12.65 to close at 5,629.77 The NYSE composite index fell 1.27 to 349.48, the Standard & Poor's 500 composite was off 3.79 at 652.00.and the Nasdaq composite was down 1.27 at 1,092.99. In Washington, the government reported Americans' productivity increased by 1.1. percent in 1995 -- the best showing since 1992. Gold was trading at $393.85, up 60 cents.
