COACHES GONE WILD
The offseason has been open season for NCAA coaches. Monday saw an end to a week of debate over the behavior of Iowa State hoops coach LARRY EUSTACHY (right), who was pictured April 28 in the Des Moines Register at a post-game campus party at rival Missouri in January. Eustachy, who looked like he was auditioning for a role in Old School 2, was the highest-paid employee in the state before the university bought out his contract for $960,000 on May 5. Alabama's MIKE PRICE never even got to coach one game at his new school. Hired to bring stability to a proud but wounded football program in December, Price was investigated by the university after he spent hundreds of dollars in a Florida strip club and a woman rang up $1,000 in room service charges on his hotel bill. Alabama, already on probation for violations under a previous coach, had no other choice but to sack its newest leader. "What happened to second chances in life?" asked Price in a tearful farewell. But everybody knows those are reserved for the people who play the games, not coach them.
