Rawshan (right), the first wife of Abdul Qadir, makes nan bread for other women who bring her their dough to the cooking area of her bombed-out home in the Silo district of Kabul, Afghanistan. "Rawshan's husband Abdul Qadir was a successful farmer in the north and wealthy enough to have two wives before the Taliban came to power and burnt their home to the ground," says Stanmeyer. "Now his wives fight over food rations and he ekes out a living doing odd labor on the streets of Kabul."
