Wildfires sweep across 10 western states, consuming more than 375,000 acres of wilderness


Firefighter Mark Huttema shoots fire-retardant foam onto the hills outside of Ruch, Ore., as part of the effort to stop the Quartz fire. On Saturday, Aug 11, 2001, the wildfire had destroyed two homes, forced the evacuation of several others and was still growing.
