JOHN F. KENNEDY, 1961: For his inauguration, JFK (pictured here with Vice President Lyndon Johnson at right and former Vice President Richard Nixon at far right) not only went hatless, he also shed his overcoat, and steam rose from him as he spoke in the windy 22-degree weather. Army units using flame throwers were deployed to remove nine inches of snow around the Capitol that morning.
