If there were a Presidential Pet Hall of Fame, FDR's Scottish terrier, Fala, surely would be the main attraction. Roosevelt's constant companion, Fala drove the Secret Service crazy; agents worried that the terrier's presence drew too much attention to the President. FDR apparently harbored no such fears over protest, he brought Fala along to at least one of his three inaugurations, and was said to prefer his company to that of most people. When FDR died, Fala was heartbroken; he was ultimately buried at his master's feet. |
