Some White House animals simply signal a First Family's dubious decision-making skills. When a voter in Mississippi sent Grace and Calvin Coolidge a raccoon, the couple happily adopted the furry critter and named her Rebecca. Less successful in his capital tenure was Old Whiskers, First Son Russell Harrison's cranky pet goat: One day President Benjamin Harrison was forced to chase the grouchy billy down Pennsylvania Avenue after the goat took off carrying the presidential grandchildren on his back.
