Pets often inspire moments of carefree abandon. Nancy and Ronald Reagan had two dogs at the White House, each of which had a gift for pulling the President (sometimes violently) away from reporters. Lucky, a sheepdog, had a short-lived stay in Washington; after he failed obedience school, he was sent to the Reagans' ranch in California. Rex, a King Charles spaniel, was brought in as a replacement.
