Bush to Arizona: "Hang in There"
Fires in Arizona and California consume thousands of acres and displace hundreds of people


As epic wildfires continue their sweep across the American West, President Bush visits eastern Arizona to offer comfort and aid to those affected by the ever-approaching flames. "We're all in this together," he told a group of 300 gathered in a high school cafeteria in Eagar, Arizona. The President, after declaring the fire-ravaged land a federal disater area, promised residents federal aid and low-interest loans, and pledged 350 fire engines, 13 air tankers and 54 helicopters to the firefighters who continue to battle the blaze. This summer's fires already rank among the worst in U.S. history — and the season is only a week old.
