Aung San Suu Kyi had lived under house arrest for 15 of the last 21 years until her release on Saturday November 13, 2010. She is the leader of the National League for Democracy, which achieved a decisive victory in the last national election, held in 1990. The junta has refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of that vote.
