The movement to gain the vote on a national level owes a great deal to Anthony, who was also a leader in the abolitionist movement. Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she founded the National Women's Suffrage Association in 1869, which worked to gain the vote through a federal constitutional amendment.
