Brett Favre, Gunslinger on the Gridiron, Retires

College Career
Favre spent his college years (1987 to 1991) at the University of Southern Mississippi. The school offered him a scholarship, but wanted him to play defensive back. Favre pressed to play quarterback and began his freshman year as the seventh-string player at that position. By the third game, he emerged as the starter.
