Bon Voyage to the Queen Elizabeth 2
Hulton-Deutsch Collection / Corbis
The Launch
The ship's launch in 1967 was attended by Queen Elizabeth II. Contrary to popular belief, the ship was not named after her, but instead for the QE2's sea-faring predecessor, the Queen Elizabeth, which was, in turn, named after Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Queen consort of George VI.
