Tibet Buddhism's 14th Dalai Lama, born Lhamo Dhondrub on July 6, 1935, at his enthronement in Lhasa as the spiritual and temporal ruler of Tibet on Feb. 22, 1940. He assumed full power as the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso on Nov. 17, 1950.
