At the center of The Greenbrier estate is a sulfur water spring that, since 1778, has drawn wealthy Americans looking to escape the south's heat and humidity. The first incarnation of The Greenbrier, The Grand Central Hotel (above), was built in 1858 and went by the moniker, "The White."
