Above, an artist's rendition of the hobbit as it might have looked when it lived on Flores as recently as 17,000 years ago, when Homo sapiens shared the same island. Despite their tiny brain and small stature — the hobbits stood no higher than 3 ft. — there is evidence that they made and hunted with elementary tools.
