Childhood
Though she was born into a family of wealth and privilege, Eleanor's young life was not easy. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother, whom she regarded as "the most beautiful woman (she had) ever seen" was disappointed in her daughter's looks. Both parents died before Eleanor was ten, and she was raised by her maternal grandmother.
