Anglo-Saxon Treasure Hoard Found in U.K.
David Rowan, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Ancient Riches
The Staffordshire hoard contained about 11 lb. (5 kg) of gold and 5.5 lb. (2.5 kg) of silver, making it far bigger than the Sutton Hoo discovery in 1939, in which 3.3 lb. (1.5 kg) of Anglo-Saxon gold was found near Woodbridge in Suffolk. What's more, many of the estimated 1,500 items are unique.
