Bernanke's grandfather Jonas, a former Austro-Hungarian army officer and Russian prisoner of war, moved to Dillon during the Depression when he saw an advertisement for a pharmacy for sale in the town. He named it Jay Bee Drugs, using his initials, and it grew into a local fixture, an old-fashioned family business on Main Street.
