Driven by a lust for power and evangelical zeal, a bizarre gang of Christian-fundamentalist narcotraffickers known as La Familia Michoacana has built a powerful cartel around the manufacture and sale of methamphetamine. Known for its extremely violent methods, La Familia clashed with Mexican law enforcement on several occasions. The Apatzingán house in the photo above still stands vacant two years after the gang faced Mexican soldiers in a fire fight.
