Once the heart and soul of France, the French farm is now under threat as competition, globalization and urbanization have forced many farms to shut down. Many French farmers, like Joseph Lacroix, 80, above, on his corn and kiwi farm south of Bordeaux, now augment their income by renting rooms to tourists.
