Hope, Change and Struggle: An Artist's View of the 2008 Presidential Campaign
The Artist and Her Subject
"As an artist I spend my time looking at people and the stories that surround them. This was a compelling story. I had just had my first child, and he looked like Obama; I was pregnant with my second mixed-race son. I originally envisaged one trip but that turned into many, and I realized this story wasn't just about Obama, it was about the American people, the campaign, and all of us from around the world watching this. I wanted to tell the story of what I felt this campaign really achieved, which is what can happen when people come together and work together for something."
