The Young Victoria
With a large crowd wishing her well, Queen Victoria has the crown placed on her head at her coronation in Westminster Abbey in June, 1837. Indeed, the abbey is a "Royal Peculiar": this means it belongs directly to the monarch, not to a diocese or province of the Church. Formally, it's known as the Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster and has been called "the parish church of the world" due to strong links with Europe, the U.S. and the Commonwealth.
