Mubarak and Sadat
Born in 1928 in a Nile delta village, Hosni Mubarak rose to power through the ranks of the Egyptian Air Force. After striking a decisive blow against Israeli forces during the first day of the October 1973 Arab-Israeli war, Mubarak was promoted by then-President Anwar Sadat, to vice president and subsequently entrusted him with a deep diplomatic portfolio.
