Radical Fashion: Jean Paul Gaultier's Flashiest Designs
DR / Archives Jean Paul Gaultier
An Artist is Born
Jean Paul Gaultier with his grandmother circa 1958. Born on April 24, 1952 in Arcueil, France, Gaultier never received formal training to become a designer. But by 1976, he'd launched his own line, and his frivolous and fantastical designs earned him the nickname "enfant terrible" in the fashion industry. He went on to dress dress a host of iconic women on and off the runway from Madonna to the burlesque queen Dita von Teese. The designer is now an industry onto himself with a successful perfume line and an off-the-rack collection for discount retailer Target.
