VOLCANIC ERUPTION
Lava continues to cascade down the slopes of Mayon Volcano in Legazpi city, 204 miles (330 kilometers) southeast of Manila, in this timed exposure taken before dawn. The volcano, one of the world's active volcanos and famous for its near-perfect cone, showed signs of restlessness recently after its eruption last February 2000. Volcanologists said that the lava flow is due to the collapse of its lava dome following the slow rise of its magma. Photographed June 7, 2001.
