NICARAGUAN TRAGEDY The body of Jessenia Matus, 13, is observed during her wake in Managua, Nicaragua. Matus died 10 days after a drug-induced coma. Police following a drug trail in the Acahualinca neighborhood of Managua said Jessenia's mother, Carmen Matus, made the girl swallow 13 pieces of rock cocaine to hide them from police. Officials said the amount the girl swallowed was enough to provide 30 to 50 addicts. The mother and Jessenia's older sister were arrested by police and charged with murder.
