ERUPTION
A car arrives near the Etna volcano Friday night. Europe's most active volcano is in eruption since July 12. The lava was closing in on the deserted Sapienza tourist center at an altitude of nearly 6,600 feet and by late Thursday had flowed to within only yards of built-up structures.
