An unidentified man looks on helplessly as forest fires engulf his property in the village of Dzelalije near Sibenik, a town 50 miles west of Split. Strong winds that began in the Central Croatian coastal region of Dalmatia fanned fires over a huge territory, damaging houses, cars and power lines. Sunday, August 12, 2001.
