Muslims throughout the world are currently observing Ramadan, the Islamic calendar month believed to be the one during which Allah revealed the words of the Koran to the Prophet Mohammed. Observing Ramadan requires that Muslims demonstrate their faith by maintaining a trying dawn-to-dusk fast, but it is also a festive month of family get-togethers and social rituals.
