o the buzz at CeBIT has gotten to you, and you've decided you want to be an E-
ntrepreneur. Thousands of
firms here are eager to offer everything you need, from consulting or
finance to hardware, software and strategic services.
One way to stake out your own storefront on the Internet is to pick up Intershop
3, a new software package from Intershop
, designed to be flexible and scalable so that it can be used either by large
enterprises or the average mom and pop shop.
The company was founded by Stephan Schambach, who grew up on the wrong side of
the Berlin Wall and started his first free enterprise effort, a systems
integration firm, in 1990, a few months after it came down. After selling that
company, Schambach launched what is now called Intershop and moved to
California, hoping to attract start-up capital and global partners. He did.
Intershop recently built the online store for
Silicon Graphics.
Now he wants to help you build yours, with Intershop 3. Several features make it
easy to customize the E-store and make it your own. Server-side scripting
enables designers to modify the software without referring back to the Intershop
source code. What if you don't know the first thing about designing Web pages?
No problemo. Intershop has included an 11-step feature called the Store Design
Wizard in the new product, a basic set of templates that will get you a basic
store. Oh, you'll need a few other things, like product, financing and staff.
Just like on terra firma.
