the solar system and beyond
Two hundred thousand light-years away, a family of stars is born in a blaze of spectacular fireworks. At the center of another galaxy, a black hole with the mass of 3 billion suns is found. Meanwhile, a planet outside of our solar system is spotted hurtling through space at 20,000 miles per hour. Armed with NASA's Hubble telescope, man has penetrated the far frontiers of space, beaming back pictures with the ease of a nonchalant tourist. What's next? Discovery of alien life, some scientists insist. Others scoff -- what are the odds of discovering little green men? But a century ago, walking on the moon was science fiction, too.
