The world's most-Oscar-nominated cop team is now on the case. For only the second time in their long, crisscrossing careers, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are sharing screen time, as New York City detectives hunting a serial killer in 2008's Righteous Kill. Though they appeared in separate eras in Godfather II and were seen briefly at the same table in Heat, Kill will be the first meaty chunk of mutual screen time for the pair. It was De Niro who suggested Pacino play his 20-year partner, says director Jon Avnet, adding, "I just try to get out of the way." And offscreen? "They like each other," Avnet says, but "they're not auditioning to be talk-show hosts."
