The voice is still there, but whereas previous albums obscured it behind indecipherable themes and hyperactive arrangements, this time Van is true to his title. Light instrumentation, blues and Celtic influences — nothing radical, just enough for him to brood over soulfully (Lover Come Back) and grumpily (Don't Go to Nightclubs Anymore).

Grade: B+
