"Based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that a cabinet position would be justified. But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration."
Romney, quoted by a Muslim businessman in a Christian Science Monitor column who said it was a response to an exchange they had on putting someone of Islamic faith in his cabinet to help with terrorism matters. Romney later countered, saying the question was whether he needed a Muslim in his cabinet to confront terrorism.
