"I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps."
Obama, speaking at a town hall meeting in New Mexico. The Republican National Committee immediately lashed out at him for not knowing his history the Soviets, not the Americans, liberated Auschwitz and demanded an explanation. Obama's campaign acknowledged the mistake, saying the Illinois Senator's great uncle helped liberate Ohrdruf, a subcamp of Buchenwald, not Auschwitz
