"I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps."

Obama, speaking at a town hall meeting in New Mexico. The Republican National Committee immediately lashed out at him for not knowing his history — the Soviets, not the Americans, liberated Auschwitz — and demanded an explanation. Obama's campaign acknowledged the mistake, saying the Illinois Senator's great uncle helped liberate Ohrdruf, a subcamp of Buchenwald, not Auschwitz
