"Do we share a common philosophy of the Republican Party? Of course."

McCain, speaking to Tom Brokaw on NBC's "Meet the Press," suggesting that he and President Bush share some basic ideological principles. The ill-advised remark came at the same time as McCain is trying to distance himself from (and criticize) Bush because of his low approval ratings and the tanking economy. Obama later used the remark to keep hammering his rival, alleging that despite McCain's claims to the contrary he would continue the same policies as the current administration.
