The Luxury Index 2007
The people, places and products that are now influencing the luxury business and inspiring savvy consumers around the world
Beat Lighting
Inspired by hammered-metal Indian water vessels, Tom Dixon's Beat Light ($360 each), a series of suspension lamps in four shapes (tall, stout, fat and wide) is made of hand-hammered brass and finished with a black patina. Hung en masse, as they are at Suka restaurant in London's Sanderson Hotel, they resemble the silhouette of an Indian temple.
Black Beauty
The latest beauty secret from Japan involves some pretty dark science. Shu Uemura's new Phyto-Black Lift ($45 to $125), an anti-aging skin-care line, blends kombucha-fermented black tea and a black sugar complex that contains Pro-Xylane for plumping and reducing age spots. The best news: the stuff is sustainable.
