It took 220 years to get to the point where Americans were choosing between a woman and a black man for a major party presidential nomination. And then, because Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were both obviously more than mere census categories, within a few weeks the milestone seemed to fade in the rearview mirror. Is it audacious to feel hopeful about that?
