The 50th Annual Grammy Awards
TIME's Josh Tyrangiel rates the evening's performances from the 50th Annual Grammy Awards

Rihanna performs at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, February 10, 2008.
Jungle Love / Umbrella / Don't Stop the Music
Somehow neither Morris Day nor his gold lame ascot has aged since 1984. No one would mistake this performance for tight, but it is a performance, complete with Day mugging in front of a handheld mirror until a disembodied voice announces "Rihanna." Then Rihanna, wearing what appears to be an ostrich, does a Jungle Love-ish version of Umbrella. It's almost like the Grammy people are trying to tell us that one form of music influences another. Just to make it clear we're in full medley-metaphor mode, Rihanna slips into her own Don't Stop the Music (which samples Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Startin' Something), before Morris comes back out for a few more precious seconds of Jungle Love.
