In videogames, they have something called the Uncanny Valley, where animation seems weirder the more closely it imitates real life. Just so, when Jason performs Somewhere Over the Rainbow in his dreadlocks, it seems fresh and different — but when Jason actually performs the reggae music he embodies with his dreadlocks, he seems weak, lame and white-bread. He might have pulled it off with a reggae ballad — Many Rivers to Cross, maybe? — but he sounded like Muppet Marley Tonight.
