AGE: 47
OCCUPATION: Spiritual and tactical leader of Hizbollah
NUMBER OF TIME COVERS: 0
PREVIOUS APPEARANCES ON THE TIME 100: 0

PRO: Having dodged assassination and outlasted Israel's embarrassing 2006 incursion into Lebanon, Nasrallah's on the offensive again, calling for destruction of "Zionist" targets all over the world.

CON: Nasrallah needs that Israeli invasion to consolidate and renew Hizbollah's power: he's facing the possibility of civil war at home in Lebanon. One report (which he's denied) had him ceding military power to a deputy.
